Where to Live After You Retire

Posted on 24 May 2009 by Admin

Many people find it difficult to decide as to where they would like to be located. Many people face the dilemma of deciding whether they would like to live in an urban or suburban area, near the mountains or the forest or the ocean, near the family or away from the family, stay in an independent house, gated community or an apartment complex. There are many factors, which help you to decide where you would like to live after you retire.

First the physical structure or the layout of the place needs to be examined where aspects like the presence of a staircase will have to be taken into account. The actual area of the living space and its view and ventilation will also have to be taken into consideration apart from its location which could be either in the city, in the suburbs or in the countryside and how easily transport will be accessible from the location. The cost of all extra charges like electricity, water, heating and maintenance will also have to be taken into account. You will also have to find out how close or far away your friends and relatives would be from the house which are you thinking about and how much distance you will have to commute in order to reach the nearest hospital or medical center.

After all the available factors have been listed out, you need to decide exactly what degree of importance has to be given to each aspect. The total cost of all the facilities needs to be calculated to see whether it fits into your budget. Apart from deciding what it is that you really want at your new place you should also decide what are the factors, which should not be present at all costs. Some people do not want a house with a yard because they do not want to take the effort of shoveling the snow in the winter. Some people do not like to have other people staying in the floor above them or anywhere close by.

Try and see whether any groups which match any of your hobbies and interests like hiking, reading, movies etc are present anywhere close by. The local newspapers will have all the information about all the local activities, which take place in the area. Interaction with the neighbors and other people living in the area will increase your social network and you will get to know about things which you need to be cautious about like petty thieves, salesmen, street dogs etc. Join the local book clubs, religious groups, attend prayer meetings and also participate in any of the voluntary activities. You can also join the local fitness center, which is located close to the new place where you are staying.

There are many retired people who keep enumerating the benefits of the place where they stay after retirement. They keep themselves occupied with many different kinds of activities and also engage in hobbies, which they have neglected during their working life.

The Benefits of Retirement Communities

Posted on 24 May 2009 by Admin

People spend a lifetime and all their life savings in building the home of their dreams where they start a family and raise their children. As time goes on, people grow old and before you know it the children have grown and left home for their different paths in life. As you grow old, you start wondering as to how you are going to continue running the house in the same way that you have been doing all this time specially since you have aged and do not have the physical strength to go about all those tasks with the same stamina. Many people find themselves in a large house, which was first filled with children and noise, and now it is just an empty shell, which houses you and your spouse. Now, after retirement, many people think about selling their house. Now many retirement communities have come up and you may not be aware of the many different options, which are being made available to you through these communities.

It is very important to find a good retirement community where there are other people like you who have completed all their worldly responsibilities. They have taken care of their families, paid off all their debts, completed fruitful careers and also earned enough money to support them and not be dependent on anyone during their old age. Being a part of such a community can also prove to be very beneficial. These retirement communities are situated in a very refreshing environment where there are beautiful landscapes and flowerbeds, which are in full bloom. The maintenance of the garden will not be your responsibility either in the winter or in the autumn. There will be many activities where you can participate like golf, swimming, dance classes, barbecues, movies, shopping and many more things which you did not have time for earlier due to family responsibilities.

Maintaining the community and its yard will be the responsibility of the management, which is running the community. You only need to pay them a specific amount in the form of fees every month. The fees will help in maintaining the community and its accessories like the swimming pool, fitness area, picnic spots and hiking places. You will be able to nicely relax in such places and there will be plenty of other people living there with whom you can interact.

These communities have been designed to accommodate the physical problems of its residents. Most of these communities will have just one floor and they are designed in such a way that they are quite spacious. Medical facilities like a doctor and a hospital are easily available from here and located close by. The security in such places is also very tight and the place is well lit and surrounded by guards all the time. Many people find it difficult to detach themselves from their large homes where a lot of time and effort is needed to maintain the house. They do not understand the advantages of a good retirement community.

Floating Retirement Homes

Posted on 24 May 2009 by Admin

Waterfront Lifestyles International has conceived a new concept of floating retirement homes for the senior citizens of Florida. This retirement facility has been housed in a floating cruise ship and this contains all modern facilities and conveniences. There is a dining room, cocktail lounge, nightclub, library, Internet café, spa, fitness center, cigarette bar, shopping area, medical center, a sun deck, sauna, casino and shuffleboard. This ship is situated in Cape Canaveral, which is very close to Orlando and many other famous landmarks in Florida like Disneyworld, Sea World, universal studios, and space launches.

People who live on this ship get to own a 1/100th share of the ship and this includes a stateroom for two with meals and they get to use all the facilities which are available on the ship. This is very similar to a condo where a maintenance fee will have to be paid depending on the size and the cost of the stateroom. The size of the staterooms ranges from 125-330 feet. The fees, which are taken from, the inmates go towards the operating expenses of the ship. Since real estate is not being purchased, then there will be no property taxes or closing fees. All the inmates have formed a house owners association, which will take decisions on the maintenance of the ship, and also the fees, which is paid every month. The present name of the ship is Alegria but the decision to change the name of the ship lies with the house owners association. The profits which are earned from the shopping area, bars, casino and the spa will be recycled once again into the maintenance fund which takes care of the operating expenses of the ship.

The ship has a housekeeping service that will visit all the staterooms every week. There are twelve guest rooms on the ship where the friends and family of inmates can stay. When the ship docks at a particular destination, a cashless casino is put in service for recreational purposes and the proper gaming at the casino begins when the ship sets sail once again. The inmates have facilities where they can get their clothes laundered and every stateroom has a telephone, flat screen television and access to high speed Internet. There is a shuttle bus for inmates to use when they go shopping or even sight seeing. Every room also has large windows and all the inmates get a membership at the local golf and tennis country club as well as monthly cruise to the Bahamas and an annual cruise to the Caribbean. Parking and storage facilities are also included.

The cost of stay for people can range from anything between $2500-$5500 in a month and this includes all the meals as well as the housekeeping facilities. The amount which has to be paid for every person in a normal retirement home is somewhere between $1000-$3000 in a month and this can reach $8000 in a luxury retirement home. People who cannot afford the high fees can also rent a stateroom over here. A refundable deposit of $10000 will have to be paid.
