Floating Retirement Homes

Posted on 24 May 2009 by Admin

Waterfront Lifestyles International has conceived a new concept of floating retirement homes for the senior citizens of Florida. This retirement facility has been housed in a floating cruise ship and this contains all modern facilities and conveniences. There is a dining room, cocktail lounge, nightclub, library, Internet café, spa, fitness center, cigarette bar, shopping area, medical center, a sun deck, sauna, casino and shuffleboard. This ship is situated in Cape Canaveral, which is very close to Orlando and many other famous landmarks in Florida like Disneyworld, Sea World, universal studios, and space launches.

People who live on this ship get to own a 1/100th share of the ship and this includes a stateroom for two with meals and they get to use all the facilities which are available on the ship. This is very similar to a condo where a maintenance fee will have to be paid depending on the size and the cost of the stateroom. The size of the staterooms ranges from 125-330 feet. The fees, which are taken from, the inmates go towards the operating expenses of the ship. Since real estate is not being purchased, then there will be no property taxes or closing fees. All the inmates have formed a house owners association, which will take decisions on the maintenance of the ship, and also the fees, which is paid every month. The present name of the ship is Alegria but the decision to change the name of the ship lies with the house owners association. The profits which are earned from the shopping area, bars, casino and the spa will be recycled once again into the maintenance fund which takes care of the operating expenses of the ship.

The ship has a housekeeping service that will visit all the staterooms every week. There are twelve guest rooms on the ship where the friends and family of inmates can stay. When the ship docks at a particular destination, a cashless casino is put in service for recreational purposes and the proper gaming at the casino begins when the ship sets sail once again. The inmates have facilities where they can get their clothes laundered and every stateroom has a telephone, flat screen television and access to high speed Internet. There is a shuttle bus for inmates to use when they go shopping or even sight seeing. Every room also has large windows and all the inmates get a membership at the local golf and tennis country club as well as monthly cruise to the Bahamas and an annual cruise to the Caribbean. Parking and storage facilities are also included.

The cost of stay for people can range from anything between $2500-$5500 in a month and this includes all the meals as well as the housekeeping facilities. The amount which has to be paid for every person in a normal retirement home is somewhere between $1000-$3000 in a month and this can reach $8000 in a luxury retirement home. People who cannot afford the high fees can also rent a stateroom over here. A refundable deposit of $10000 will have to be paid.
